MIXTAPE REVIEW: Possibly The Hottest Mixtape In Town, Mr Mwaeba By Young Haze!

Young Haze’s - Mr. Mwaeba! For casuals and new fans he’s out of nowhere, but Yung Haze has been around and with the release of his new tape, this boy is here to stay and makes it evident that he is going for the throat like ISIS. Most rappers/singers are not safe. “Mr. Mwaeba” is here!

Co-pilots such as Poppa Don & Khaligraph on “Illest MC” & “My Money” bring a crucial dynamic to the equation! He is able to effortlessly work with established cats in rap, as well as take on the new style of beats taking over hip-hop.

I get to studio and the first thing Haze hands me is his newly released tape ‘Mr Mwaeba’ prod by Ares66. “Yo Jakaqu, tape is out my G”... “Let me give a listen to it, I’m actually buying it, how much you giving it for?” I asked – on my usual behavior, I want something but I don’t know what it costs. “Only 300 G” he replies with a simple smile. I promise to send him the amount by end of the day via "Em-Besha", pick the tape put it in my backpack.

I got home that evening, listened to the tape. Must have been two or three times on repeat and I couldn’t hide my excitement. I dialed this boy like “Man, you killed it, this is your time man. You’re the best,” minutes later texted his prod Ares66 “You did an amazing job on Mr Mwaeba, Shout out”.

But that’s not even the point, I’m sailing outside the topic.

With joints like “Chwadar” and “Hold On”– the tape’s opening jam, he marks his Genesis with a bullet, proving he’s up on the latest trends! Haze also playfully handles business on “Kwisha Mambo” honoring vets in the industry singing: “Shout to those before, Haze tipping his head / Overcame the odds, now look where we at”.

Shifting from the streets to the romance kind of music, the allure of the “Playa” may be limited, but it will also likely be the best song for a proper video in the tape automatically making this kid blow up like Syria. I like the fusion also on “Take My Hand” and “SuperStar” feat Chess Minor Keys. These joints kind of sum up the mindset that it seems Haze currently has, which is basically that “the power to sing is an additional advantage to any rapper”.

What makes it captivating is the earnest, raw intensity he brings to every track. Whether he’s channeling his love towards his favorite woman (“Take My Hand” & “Playa”), or sharing heartbreaking insights into his youth (“Hold On” & “This Time”) – quoting a few lines... “bad hoes make it hard out here for a pimp”/ “I’m feeling envious about a nigga, cus that nigga barely out of school already got a job/ Getting a grip on my shit is turning to a problem, feeling regrets for High school wish ningesoma”. He just keeps listeners deeply engaged with his wordplay.

It seems everything was carefully picked out with perfect precision, not forgetting my two favorite tracks on the tape “Sumbua” & “form Ndio Gani” featuring Ares66.The best way to describe Yung Haze’s Mr. Mwaeba is that he puts in less energy and still scores the same favorable results throughout the mixtape. It becomes his ability to balance his plan, rap and singing!

It’s hard to tell what future holds for him, but for the time being he will remain on the cusp of being as big as his talent says he should be. Mr. Mwaeba is further proof he has the talent needed to be one of the biggest names in hip-hop Africawide. Shout out again to Ares66!
