As we come to an end of 2020 – a year that has seen the music industry globally affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, we take you through some of the best songs from Nigerian artists this year.

14 . True Love – Yemi Alade

This is a second single that Yemi Alade released this year, after ‘ Boyz ’, all housed in the ‘Empress’ album.

‘True Love’ has been among the best performing singles off the album and its official music video has been termed as a stunning art work with captivating cinematography, dazzling costumes, energetic choreography and a complementary mix of African cultures, from Lagos street life to Ghanaian kente dresses.

13 . Something Different – Adekunle Gold

2020 has been a good year for the Highlife singer - Adekunle Gold. It is a year that saw him drop an album ‘ Afropop Vol. 1’ that houses this hit single ‘Something Different’.

The song beautifully fuses afrobeats and pop sound with its official music video among the best performing that Adekunle Gold has released this year – it has over 9 million views on YouTube.

12 . Monsters You Made – Burna Boy

This is a politically charged track in which Burna Boy sings about how systemic racism and inequality lead to trauma and violence.

‘Monsters You Made’ can easily relate to the #EndSARS protests that rocked Nigerian, as youths demanded for justice and end to police brutality.

11 . Eli – Fireboy DML

Off Fireboy DML’s ‘Apollo’ album, ‘Eli’ is a delectable and sonically uplifting afro fusion song that will give you a pleasant listening experience.

The song’s video has been nominated for The Headies 2020 Award for Best Music Video.

10. Beamer – Rema ft Rvssian

Rema dropped a number of hit songs this year among them ‘Ginger Me’, ‘Woman’ and ‘ Alien ’ but Beamer has been the best performing – with its official music video ranking as the most-watched of all his videos – having garnered over 13 million views to date.

9. Koroba – Tiwa Savage

‘ Koroba ’ is among the first three singles that Tiwa Savage released before the ‘Celia’ album officially dropped in August.

The song has a faster tempo, superior dance vibe and a message for all – compared to ‘Celia’s’ lead single ‘Dangerous Love’.

8. Bad Influence – Omah Lay

This is a single that has helped Omah Lay grow his fan base locally, across the continent and abroad.

‘Bad Influence’ is housed in the singer’s debut EP ‘Get Layd ’ which has been ranked as the most-streamed EP from a Nigerian artist in 2020.

7. Infinity - Olamide ft Omah Lay

One of the top trending songs from Olamide’s ‘Carpe Diem’ album is ‘Infinity’ in which he teamed up with fast rising Omah Lay.

The single which has a breezy video won the hearts of many music lovers in 2020 – as it demonstrated that – a sing-song and a persistent beat are more than enough for a gently propulsive hit.

6. Ginger – Wizkid ft Burna Boy

When two of the biggest musicians in Nigeria team up for a song like Wizkid and Burna Boy did in ‘Ginger’ – the result is always a hit song.
