Nigerian singer, songwriter, rapper and dancer Burna Boy is the only African musician whose song has been listed among The Best 100 of 2020 by Pitchfork.

In an article published in the Pitchfork website on December 7, Burna Boy's 'Onyeka (Baby)' is ranked at number 57 in the list that the publication says is of
"tracks that defined this bizarre year."

'Onyeka (Baby)' is a track off the August 2020 released album 'Twice As Tall' which has been tipped among the favorites to win the World Album category at the 63rd Grammy Awards.

While ranking the single among the best 100 songs in 2020, Pitchfork, an American online music publication quotes Mina Tavakoli, a Washington DC music and literature writer, describing it as "an indestructibly sweet, sunny moment amid a colossal album of dancehall, Afrobeats, and pop, another of Burna’s Sisyphean efforts to compress the breadth of pan-Africanism into his person."

Mina Tavakoli also praises Burna Boy's versatility, comparing him to the Nigerian music legend Fela Kuti.

"Not since Fela Kuti has one artist blended the contradictions, agonies, and triumphs of the continent with so much muscle."

Burna Boy rose to prominence in 2012 after releasing 'Like to Party', the lead single from his debut studio album L.I.F.E.

He is considered among the biggest acts in Nigeria - alongside Wizkid and Davido.

While listing down the best songs for the year that had been ravaged by Coronavirus Pandemic, Pitchfork also termed them as tracks people will always turn to - until when things will be back to normal - concerts, clubs performances and tours.

"Until the day we get to gather again in sweaty clubs, packed basements, and sold-out arenas, we’ll keep turning to these 100 tracks to soundtrack our lives," read part of the article.

Top on the list of the 100 Best Songs of 2020 was the hit single 'WAP' by Cardi B featuring Megan Thee Stallion.
