Veteran Kenyan artist Mr. Lenny has opened up on his journey in the music industry, working with Ogopa records coupled with the highlights of his career.

In an interview with Jalang’o TV, Mr. Lenny narrated how his journey with Ogopa Records began noting that it was not easy to be recorded by a record label those days.

“Most upcoming artists would think that we had it easy and everything was smooth, in fact it was even hard to get a production house to sign you up and even if they did there was a lot of competition, so you had to prove yourself. Personally I was in the Ogopa camp. I had the privilege to join Ogopa just by I would say a fluke. I had just gotten to know Mr. Googz and Vinny Banton, we used to meet somewhere in town in some studio called EWD and one day they just told me, they had already done ‘Githurai’ and it was doing well, so now they were now working on the remix,” he explained.

Fortunately, Vinny heard his voice and expressed interest in including him to the ‘Githurai’ remix. The remix opened doors for them including getting to work with Ogopa deejays.

“At the time, Ogopa was rising as a production house and there were all sorts of artists remember kina Chameleon, Bebe Cool, Nameless was just rising up, kina Redsan, even kina Wahu. E-sir was working on his album, so of course I was really excited to have gotten that chance. Thanks to God I got the chance, we went to the studio, in fact Ogopa didn’t even have a studio then, we used to record in another studio called Hills media in South B and this was I think my first time to ever enter a studio, like a professional studio, so it was exciting to hear my voice literally on a professional microphone. It sounded like it wasn’t me, I couldn’t believe it. That was amazing for me,” he divulged.

Thanks to ‘Githurai remix’, he and his team go a chance to fly to Uganda and perform alongside other Ogopa artists.

“By the time we were recording, we were done with recording ‘Githurai’, am telling you, the producer Lucas, alituchezea tu sample of what it was going to be, we went crazy, yaani we knew this song was going to be a hit and for sure by the time he was done that song was an anthem. In fact I got to take my first flight because of ‘Githurai. When the song got so big we were invited to Uganda as Ogopa family to go and perform. There were some guys who didn’t watch the show because it was packed,” he said.

This opportunity opened more doors for him as he got the chance to work with established artists like Kunguru and the late E-sir.

Describing his relationship with the late E-sir and how he influenced him as an artist, Mr. Lenny said: “E-sir was you know those very cool guys, very easy to work with, a people’s person and he was very down to earth and absolutely talented. He had so many creative ideas and that’s why Ogopa Records started working on his album,” he noted.
