Popular and internationally known Nigerian singer Burna Boy has termed the ongoing protests in several parts of the West African country as just the beginning.
Burna Boy who is among a host of celebrities who have openly supported and joined the youths who are pushing for reforms in the Nigerian police force said the protests are no longer about the special police unit – SARS but it has become a revolution.
Speaking during an interview on BBC Radio’s 1xtra, Burna Boy noted that with Nigeria the most populated nation in Africa, the ongoing protests have a potential to start a revolution in the continent.
“This is even bigger than Nigeria which is the biggest black nation in the face of the earth. I believe that any revolution will start from them,” said the African Giant.
“If Nigerian can overcome then it can reach its full potential and youths can make sure that happens by rising up and fighting for their rights like they are doing at this time time,” he added.
According to Burna Boy, the ongoing protests “are going to have a domino effect to the rest of the world.”
For over a week now, the Nigerian youths have taken to the streets demanding for a number of changes in the police force they accuse of brutality and harassment.
The protests first started off on social media under the hashtag #EndSARS before slowly transforming into street protests with more demands also included and Burna Boy now says it will soon spread to the rest of African countries.
“This is just the beginning, it is not just about # EndSARS. At this point, it has become a revolution. It has become ‘we want the new Nigeria’ and soon it will become we want the new Africa," said the multiple award-winning singer and songwriter.
