The Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS) board, earlier this week elected a 12-member committee to oversee the running of the society as the caretaker team’s term comes to an end.

The caretakers had steered the society from August last year to date.

The committee voted in by the UPRS members included; Julie Ssesanga, James Serumaga, Wisdom Kaye, Justin Basiima, Dr Peter Ntege/ Peter Naawe.

Following the vote, Ugandan producers under their umbrella body Audio Producers Association Uganda (APAU )went on a strike over the inclusion of Justin Basiima; a TV presenter and an MC as their representative on the board.

According to the producers, Justin B is not fit to represent them in the board as he is not a producer.

"We don't elect representatives because of showbiz but to stand in for us and our values. We just want justice transparency in how these issues are handled. How do you elect someone we don't know, someone who is not even part of our association. Which qualifications does he have to take up that position?" Renowned Ugandan producer Artin Pro said during an interview with journalists.

“It is so sad because this person has no idea about what we are going through or even know the price of any equipment. We have suffered a lot with life and this act is blocking the voice and chance we had got to air out our problems," the producers said.

They have vowed to boycott UPRS until there's a change in their representation.
