Matata continue to hype Gengetone beyond Kenyan borders with every single they release. They are back with a new single dubbed ‘Gengetone Love’.
‘Gengetone Love’ is a lovely mellowed out gengetone single with hints of kapuka instrumentation in it. The single picks a very mellow zilizopendwa riff with an acoustic guitar to be the most apparent beat on it and then in the most subtle way layer it with the some bass pre-recorded beats that follow the same zilizopendwa progression.
Each member of Matata is keen to keep their verse mellow and smooth with their delivery and their lyrics to match up the chorus. The chorus is aimple and well layered with harmonies done by the super vocalist Miss Kuria. Miss Kuria also does the outro for the song.
In Matata’s own explanation on what the single is about, “Gengetone love is that ordinary way the masses of people especially the youths in Kenya express their love and emotions towards each other but may also be seen as the love that the ordinary people have towards Gengetone music.”
The video is a whole comic arena and it is beautiful in that way. Matata take time to bring the summer with this video which is shot in the beach. We watch all members of Matata trying to get with one girl and they put on a show at every scene of the video. In true Matata style, the video is also highly choreographed with the smoothest moves.
Catch a vibe with the sensational Matata on ‘Gengetone Love’.
