Award-winning gospel artist Mercy Masika has divulged that focusing too much on the business aspect of music is leading to production of songs that lack memorability, thus fading away quickly.

In an Instagram post, Mercy urged her fellow artistes to remain true to the craft, and focus less on the money aspect of it.

According to her, when an artist takes time to compose and work on a good song, it will eventually pay off.

She further noted that being original and following the process may take long without one seeing the reward, adding that this should not discourage artists, since they will benefit in the long run.

“The reason much of today’s music lacks inspiration and memorability is that people have blurred the lines and turned music into too much of a business. It takes moral courage to remain true to inspire, impact and be true to who you are called to be. And even though remaining true may sometimes take time to pay...it pays veery well. There's a confidence that comes from being true,” she posted on Instagram.

Looking at Mercy Masika’s catalogue, you get to see exactly what she means as she started low, trusted the process and eventually blew up with songs that are doing well till today.

Some of her top hits include; Nikupendeze, Mwema, Huyu Yesu, and Shule Yako among others.
