How was your weekend and what were you on to? Also, do you know that Mdundo has a spoken word genre section? This past weekend we caught up with the good peoples of ‘Poets You Should Know’ and jammed with various poets including Checkmate Mido.

Checkmate Mido is a multi-hyphenated artist from Kenya; he is a beat-boxer, a rapper, a spoken word artist, he plays percussions and almost every other instrument you can think of.

At the ‘Poets You Should Know’ session this weekend, Checkmate Mido was featured as the main act. It was well fit for him because he just released one of the most amazing projects in the month of August dubbed ‘Frqncy’. This well-acted as his second official launch for his project considering during these rona times, we are not going out to watch people perform.

Checkmate Mido performed singles from his album giving us snippets of where he drew his inspiration from. He was jamming with just his loop station and beat-boxing his way through various songs.

Checkmate Mido is quite an interesting and captivating live performer. This is accredited to his unique and versatile style of delivery and sound. He fuses different styles of music and his spoken-word prowess to create much of his music. He also fuses a lot of sounds from nature, beat-boxing, acoustics and a lot of African instrumentation to create a rich sound for his music.
