Njoki Karu Releases New Soulful EP Dubbed 'Tawasifu ya Moyo'

Njoki Karu, “singer/songwriter and lover of books and cats,” that is how she describes herself. She, gave us a wholesome body of art dubbed ‘Tawasifu ya Moyo’.
‘Tawasifu ya Moyo’ is a 5 track EP. Njoki Karu pours herself out for us to experience her with every song. Every song sounds very personal and she takes us through spirituality, love, hope and everything that the heart can hold.
If you are yet to meet Njoki Karu, it is important to take a minute to experience her magical voice on this EP. She has a couple of videos of her performing live up on YouTube and for people who attended Patricia Kihoro’s Speakerbox, you have definitely watched Njoki Karu in her element. Njoki Karu has a well-rounded voice that has the perfect balance between calm and disruptive. She dares to add a rasp here and there.
The EP opens up to a church hymn, ‘Simama Imara’. This sets the mood and tone for the rest of the songs on the EP which are all conversations between Njoki’s heart and the universe and both Njoki and her listeners are watching from a distance. The EP is laced with a lot of beautiful harmonies created by layering her voice. There are no features on the EP.
