Fela in Versace was obviously a big hit for AKA and recreating/building on it would not be far-fetched for the South African rapper. This is exactly what he has done for his new single titled ‘Cross My Heart’.

‘Cross My Heart’ is a rap/sung record; it has a hook/pre-chorus that has some auto-tune added to AKA’s voice to enable him to get to high notes, it then has a chorus that has AKA putting his raspy/ruffish swag to and the verses where AKA is rapping.

As mentioned earlier, the beat sounds like a build-up from AKA’s Fela in Versace; a strong hip-hop beat layered with some Kwaito bass. This is very signature to AKA’s sound as he also counts himself as one of the biggest Kwaito and house music fan.

The video is shot in some closed spaces; recreating a club, patterned hallways and a basement parking lot. There are a lot of bright white lights through the video but still maintaining a club dimly lit ambience for all the scenes. The video features a couple of vixens. AKA dances solo and with part of the crew some freestyle moves.

The single comes days after AKA tested positive for COVID-19 and so we continue keeping him in our prayers. Catch a vibe with AKA on ‘Cross My Heart’.
