H.E.R released the video for her very soulful and powerfully emotive new single ‘I Can’t Breathe’. H.E.R has never been shy from speaking against injustices in her music and this single is true to this nature.
‘I Can’t Breathe’ is a single that is taken from one of George Floyd’s final moments; this single goes on to be created around this. ‘I Can’t Breathe’ is a single that speaks on police brutality against the black community in the USA.
H.E.R compiled a beautiful piece to tell the story of this single. She compiled news of protests from all over the world in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. It is a great balance to not show too much of the brutality but still highlight it. She continues to show the different people holding vigils for the people who have fallen in the hands of policemen.
Throughout the video, H.E.R displays the names of the people who have suffered police brutality. She breaks into a spoken word segment in the single where everything else goes still and only the names are popping up filling up the screen.
