Over the weekend, August Alsina made an announcement that his fans have really been waiting for; he announced that he will be dropping a new album on the 26th of June that will be titled ‘The Product III: STATEOFEMERGENCY (emerge.and.see)’.
In preparation for this album, August Alsina has been releasing a series on his YouTube; probably in line with what the album will be about. So far he has been releasing a ‘State of Emergency’ episode every day of this week.
August Alsina has been close to inactive in the music industry for about 6 years. He has however been very open about his struggles; mental health, clinically depressed and finding steps to healing. On this series, he picks up on this in a bigger magnitude and contextualizing a couple of necessary things.
He sheds light on growing up black watching people around you getting killed by the police, by other people in the hood and drugs. August speaks of the trauma that ends up shaping many black men in the USA courtesy of these atrocities they grow up witnessing.
This 27 track album is timely for a couple of reasons; we unpack that black men protesting are not just angry, they are traumatised and need better spaces to thrive; we talk about mental health in the black community; we have really been waiting for August Alsina to make this comeback.
You can pre-order the album on your favourite streaming sites and keep up with August Alsina’s growth from a boy to the man he is at the moment on his YouTube.
