“The thing about hip hop today is it’s smart, it’s insightful. The way they can communicate a complex message in a very short space is remarkable” Obama once said.

This is very true in light to what this new age of Kenyan hip hop artists is proving, rapper Poppa Don being on the front row.

His new video ‘Clip A line’ off his his mixatape ‘Grey Hound 2.0', is solid evidence to Obama’s words. A Jeraw Harris beat mastered by producer Arees 66, the visuals is a Raymond Otieno picture which is is an embodiment of the word quality!

The video is short in a precise way, simple and very vivid. The multilingual rap on the song simply acts as the cherry ontop.

The way he switches from English to Swahili then straight Dholuo, no matter howmany times I hear him do it, still manages to amaze me! I mean, it’s not everyday you meet a multilingual Kenyan and moreover one who can effortlessly incorporate the ability in his song lyrics- right?

Why then it comes as no big surprise when he says he draws inspiration from the likes of GidiGidi MajiMaji since they were the only duo who used the same style in their delivery.

Poppa is a new breed of rappers who walk tall despite their ethnic differences and uses that factor as an advantage instead.
