9 Most-Streamed Nigerian Artists

Billboard, an American entertainment media brand recently released a list of 15 most-streamed artists in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The ranking is based on global views.

In the list, 9 artists were from Nigeria, cementing the fact that the West African country is a power house when it comes to matters music industry in Africa.

We take a look at the 9 Nigerian artists who made the cut to the ‘Billboard’s Top 15 Sub-Saharan African Artists’;

9. Joeboy

With barely 3 years into the music industry, Joeboy’s reputation as an artist has been on the upward growth.

He is today a popular figure among afro beats lovers with his signature voice an attraction to many.

According to data by Billboad, Joeboy was the 15th most-streamed artist in Sub-Saharan Africa and 9th in Nigeria with 106.08 million streams.

8. Yemi Alade

‘Mama Africa’ as she is popularly known, Yemi Alade is a popular figure in not only Nigeria and Africa but also across the globe.

She has won multiple awards and done collaborations with many international artists.

With 109.55 million streams, Yemi Alade was ranked 14th most-streamed artist in Sub-Saharan Africa and 8th in Nigeria.

7. Sinach

When it comes to the Gospel music industry, Sinanh is arguably the queen in Africa and has her special place globally. It is only recently that she became the first African to top the Billboard Christian Songwriter for 10 straight weeks courtesy of her hit single ‘Way Maker’.

In the billboards ranking for most-streamed artists in Sub-Saharan Africa, Sinach is the only gospel artist who made the cut at position 12 and 7th in Nigeria with 120.73 million streams.

6. Flavour

Popularly known across many African countries for his hit song ‘ Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix), Flavour N'abania or simply referred to as Flavour is the 6th most-streamed Nigerian artist and 11th among the Sub-Saharan Africans with 130.15 million streams.

5. Mr Eazi

The emPawa Africa Foundation boss Mr Eazi takes the 5th position among the Nigerian most-streamed artists and ranks at position 8 in the Sub-Saharan Africa with 139.68 million streams.

Mr Eazi ranks ahead of East African trio of Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo (13), Rayvanny (10) and Harmonize (9) of Tanzania.

4. Tekno Miles

With 153.07 million streams, Tekno Miles hold the 7th position for the Billboard’s most-streamed artists in Sub-Saharan Africa, and 4th among the Nigeria artitists .

3. Wizkid

The Starboy Entertainment boss is a popular figure in the Nigerian music industry. He has been in the game for quite some time now and boosts of multiple awards to his name.

In the Billbords ranking for the Sub-Saharan Africa artists, Wizkid is at position 5 with 176.23 million streams and 3rd in Nigeria.

2. Davido

The American-born Nigerian singer has a reputation of being among the best African artists known internationally. He eually has a huge fan-base not only in Africa but globally.

Recently, Davido’s 2017 hit single ‘Fall’ got a Gold certification in the United States and Canada, an indication that his work is internationally appreciated.

With 285.76 million streams, Davido was ranked by Billboard as the third most-streamed artist in the Sub-Saharan Africa behind Bongo’s Diamond Platnumz who was ranked second with 291.98 million streams.

1. Burna Boy

Sitting at the top of both Sub-Saharan and Nigerian most-streamed artist, according to Billboard ranking, is Burna Boy.

The Port Harcourt-born singer whose 2019 album ‘African Giant’ was nominated for the Grammy Awards had 435.57 million streams.

Other artists in the Sub-Saharan Africa who were ranked among the 15 most-streamed artists are Congo’s Fally Ipupa (186.5M) and Innoss’B (155.67M) at positions 4 and 6 respectively.
