The Ugandan music industry has without a doubt evolved over years, and is now one of the most vibrant in East Africa.

The songs we are enjoying today were defined by hits that dominated the airwaves over a decade ago.

This article looks at some of the biggest jams that we grooved to in Uganda back in the day. If you grew up in the 2000's, you will definitely know these songs:

1. Eno Mic - Ziggy Dee

This monster song by Ziggy Dee comes at number one because every Ugandan, regardless of their age vibed and jammed to it. It was released back in 2002 and earned Ziggy Dee a chance to perform before the parliament of Uganda due to its popularity.

2. Ndi Ku Diggi - Ngoni and Mr Mosh

Ndi Ku Diggi was sung by Patrick Nyanzi and Eddie Ddumba under their music name 'Ngoni'. It dropped in 2006. Despite the controversial meaning of the song, it ruled airwaves both in Uganda and East Africa at large. The song featured famous TV and radio presenter Mr. Mosh.

3. Vumilia - Jose Chameleone

Jose Chameleone gave us this masterpiece in 2011 and it was quite different from his usual style. In this song, Chameleone narrated his humble beginnings and the hard work he put through to get to the top. In 2012, Jose Chameleone released the remix with a faster beat which also did well. The lyrics being in Swahili and English made it popular in countries like Kenya and Tanzania.

4. Nod Yo Head - Obsessions

Obsessions was a popular local dance group that also took up singing. Nod Yo Head was released in 2003 and it was the first single off their debut 7 track album. The song was a hit both at home and in clubs and everyone struggled to copy the unique dance moves that were in the video.

5. Bread and Butter - Radio & Weasel

From way back, we have known the Goodlyfe Boys; Radio and Weasel for giving us hit songs and Bread & Butter was one of them. During an interview, Radio revealed that the song was not supposed to be composed. It began when they were simply having a conversation with friends about how bread and butter was an easy thing for kids to say. They had a studio session but they had not yet got a title for the song they had planned on doing. So bread and butter came in handy in 2009. Surprisingly it took music fans by storm.
