Noah Cyrus has really managed to curate her own style of music away from the shadow of her older sister, Miley Cyrus. She has released a new single ‘Young and Sad’ and a cool video for it.
‘Young and Sad’ is a single that delves into fears of almost every young person at some point in their young adult life. The struggle of attaining goals and building a life that feels beautiful; in whatever sense. This often comes with the fear of being in a hole which then sets one back to a sadness and for some people, it might end up in depression; could explain the high numbers of depression especially among the millennials.
The song begins with a voicemail message from Noah’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus. Noah dives into her well written lyrics that really dissect her life; speaks on everyone around her who is seemingly happy and the need to be saved but really never getting there even after somehow finding a saviour.
The song is set over a country indie folk beat. Noah marries this with a very melancholy-laced voice. She articulates every word carefully which sits well with the very subtle and calm nature of the instrumentation.
The video is animated and it really takes us through a phase of sadness; Noah starts off in a dark room sleeping and not getting the phone and we watch her running on a horse through the song; probably to translate the lyrics, ‘running from young and sad.’
Catch a vibe with Noah Cyrus on ‘Young and Sad’ and remember to prioritise on your mental health.
