The greatest love stories are told in song and sometimes it takes one more listen for us to really get into a song’s soul. This is what Jacob Banks is reminding us in his new single ‘Like You’ll Never See Me Again’.
‘Like You’ll Never See Me Again’ is a cover of Alicia Keys’ hit single of the same title. The song speaks of selflessly loving someone and loving them like it is the only job you have between the two of you.
The song, originally written by Alicia Keys and Kerry Brothers Jr. and performed by Alicia Keys rolls quite different on Jacob Banks’ tongue. He gives it a twist both in sound and flow.
Jacob Banks takes a very acoustic route for this particular performance. He uses only a piano to layer his vocals over and the instrumentation only gets busier at the chorus and towards the end of the song.
The use of the piano is a good choice for Jacob Banks who has a very rich and well-rounded abrasive voice that towers beautifully over the piano. Any more would have been too busy for the song. This richness of his voice makes it easy for him to shape the song quite different from the original giving it a new flow of sorts.
The video is very simple and it gives us a glimpse into a picnic date between two lovers; a love story that otherwise ends too tragically.
I cannot wait for that Alicia Keys and Jacob Banks duet for this song. In the meantime though, catch a vibe with Jacob Banks on ‘Like You’ll never See Me Again’.
