Ugandan legendary lugaflow rapper G.N.L Zamba has dissected the income of Ugandan artistes and revealed why most of them still remain broke despite the hard work.

Speaking during an interview with NBS, the Baboon Forest boss explained that most artistes have not yet mastered the art of saving, but instead opt to spend money recklessly.

He also blamed promoters and booking agents, who he claimed take advantage of these naive artists because they have not mastered how the music industry works.

"As artistes, it has taken us long time to learn how to manage this business and how to save money. By the time we came on screens, we were still young (at 19 years) we wasted a lot of money without taking this business seriously. The music itself is profitable, a person can earn a lot from a show.

"The people that take these artistes' money mostly are promoters because if a musician has not yet mastered the business, promoters plus booking agents take a lot of money. Managers also steal their money. At the end of the day, the music is profitable but finding a way of fine tuning this machine to move well, takes musicians some time to understand this.

"Our industry is still growing. Unlike American industries that started over 100 years ago, we are still counting from the 70's and late 90's. We are still very young and learning the principles of this industry but it is very profitable,” he said.

He noted that besides concerts and tours, he has earned money from side ventures like his merchandise; the Baboon forest T-shirts and advised his fellow artistes to look for side businesses to supplement their income.

"There are several ways of making money through this industry but many artistes have not yet learnt how to maximize their potential. That is why my mission is to teach them the things I've learnt in the U.S through my company, Baboon Forest to help improve on our industry,” G.N.L opined.
