Career

Serro started singing as a child and grew up listening to benga and zilizopendwa which are the two main genres she still draws a lot of inspiration from. She however got serious with music in High School when she joined the school choir and then joined the Kenya Girls’ Choir for 8 months after completing High School.

When Serro joined Kenyatta University for her undergraduate, she left the choir. It was at this point her love for music actually transitioned from choral to band music. While still at Kenyatta University, she joined Sauti Academy for their one year program. It was while at Sauti Academy that she wrote her first song and got a band together as the only singer ‘Serro & the Charactaz’.

Serro got her first single ‘Rongai’ out as produced by Sauti Sol’s Polycarp. He watched her perform at Jamhuri sessions. From that point, her career took off and she has pretty much established her niche in the industry as the Queen of Ballads in Kenya.

Serro plays drums and the guitar. She picked up the guitar to learn chords while writing music but she now takes it to stage for performances. She picked drums while at Kenyatta University because she really enjoys drums and has actually played for Wyre.
