Serro is undoubtedly the queen of ballads in Kenya and more so because of her rich tone and well-rounded voice and her mastery of harmonies. She proves this again in her new single ‘Akia’.

‘Akia’ is a Luo word meaning ‘I don’t know or clueless’. In the context of this song, Serro is singing of finding a love that is beautiful but you don’t know what to do with it because you are not ready to indulge.

‘Akia’ has a very salsa feel to it and it is really a blend of guitars in medium pace. Serro lays her vocals beautifully over this arrangement and plays them to higher and lower notes very effortlessly.

The video, set in Lava Latte takes us through the motions of being in love. The female model highlights the trouble of being in an abusive relationship. She then finds a love that she has always wanted in her co-worker. She is however not ready to be in love because of her past experience and she is afraid that this too might turn bitter. It highlights a lot of important issues in society in the context of relationships.

‘Akia’ is off of a project by Waithaka Entertainment by Kenyan female vocalists titled ‘Odes by Queens’. It is the second single off this project which also features Miss Kuria, Prisca Ojwang’, Ythera, Maryolive Mungai, Wabi Sherrie, Zaituni Wambui and Chep.
