Olaiya Olatunde Abdul-Lateef famous by his street and decks name DJ Bamzyriches who is Nigeria-born, South Africa-based Disc Jockey, slammed Nigerian-produced Afrobeat saying South Africans grossly prefer their native sound and dancehall to our Afrobeats.
“Afrobeat is popular here in South Africa, no questions about that, but not as much as expected and not as much as many people think. Most South Africans still prefer their native music and dancehall to any kind of music. You should also know that Nigerians also get most of their beats from South African music. South Africans love dancehall,” He said.
Contrary to the popular belief that the wave of Nigerian Afrobeats has taken over the music scene throughout the continent, this tackle wouldn't be well understood without walking the shoes of Fela Kuti. Father of Afrobeat. The idea behind it is sensitization towards morality, good governance, political freedom and a land of opportunity and equality to every citizen.
