A hit song comes with all the fire covers the people of the internet could produce and it was not going to be any different for Sauti Sol’s hit single Suzanna. Gathoni Waweru has released a reggae cover version of the song which she has done in Kikuyu.

The song is a word for word translation of the original Suzanna song, literally and/or otherwise. Sauti Sol was met by a pact of some displeased people of the internet after the release of Suzanna because they felt it to be too sexist. Gathoni is taking the third person place to speak for a Kamau so I guess staying on brand with Sauti Sol’s version was not a bad idea.

The video is set in a village and so is the story of the cover. Gathoni speaks for a Kamau who was left in the village by Suzanna. Kamau is now miserable while Suzanna is living her best vanity life everywhere but with Kamau. The video takes us to the village, to Suzanna’s friends who are passing this message to her from Kamau. Besides Gathoni, it features celebrity faces; Nyce Wanjeri (from Auntie Boss) and Nonoo (from Inooro TV).

It is such a beautiful cover courtesy of Gathoni’s beautiful voice and an even more beautiful video. Catch a vibe with Gathoni and friends on ‘Suzanna cover’.
