Her musical influence on her choice and style of music are the likes of Fela Kuti, Miriam Makeba, Nina Simone, and Jimi Hendrix. Her style ranges from Afrobeat, Congolese Rumba, Caribbean Zouk, Jazz, and the general Latin sounds.

During this period, Angélique Kidjo has been able to release a total of 13 solo albums excluding her effort for Euro-African jazz/rock band Pili Pili and as an indie artist. Her latest album ‘Celia’ is dedicated to her music idol Celia Cruz from Cuba. She sampled her icon’s songs throughout the album, ‘reinvented with an Afrobeat feel’.

2020 has started well for Angélique Kidjo as she has not only been featured in the Forbes 2020 list of Africa’s Most Powerful Women, but she has also been crowned the winner of the 2020 Grammy Award category for ‘Best World Music Album‘ 62nd Grammys 2020 which she dedicated to Burna Boy.

The category had in it nominations from renowned African musicians Altin Gün, Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley, Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet and "The African Giant" Burna Boy who has sampled his own version of ‘Wombolombo'.
