YouTube Music In Nigeria, What Does it Mean?

Google Africa announced on 11th March 2020 through its blogs and social media pages of the official launch of YouTube music now available in Nigeria. The service was previously only available in one African country (South Africa).

YouTube Music is a music streaming service offering exclusive official songs, albums, playlists, artist podcasts, exclusive catalog of remixes, live performances, covers, and music videos all personalized through superior listening logarithms all organized in one place.
While music fans can access ad-supported YouTube Music for free, a paid membership of N900 a month and thereafter or N1,400 per month for a Family Plan, gives one an added advantage of background listening, downloads, and an ad-free experience.

The benefits coming in with the launch and the full inclusion of the YouTube music to Nigeria is that all the music can be found on the platform, music search has been heightened and hence hints and bits and pieces of music you are looking for will land you on the song intended and you can save music to listen while offline. Among other benefits are ease of use, exciting graphics both on phone and on a computer and an optimized search feature.

Among the data presented during the official launch in Lagos for the ear 2019,

Over 90% of views of the top 100 most viewed Nigerian-based artists came from outside of Nigeria and 70% came from outside Africa

Nigerian-based artists earned the most collective views from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Nigeria, and Kenya.

Burna Boy has reached the charts in over 20 countries and territories, including the United Kingdom, France, South Africa, Estonia, Portugal, Denmark, Switzerland, Panama, Kenya, and Uganda.

Wizkid has reached the charts in over fifteen countries and territories, including the United States, United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Davido is the most subscribed Nigerian artist globally, with over 2.1 million subscribers with views in over 10 countries and territories, including Australia, Canada, the UK, Kenya, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, USA, South Africa, and Zimbabwe.

YouTube Premium was also availed in the event which was held in Lagos.
