'Tugende Mukikadde' Music Concert Postponed
18 March 2020
Last week, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic, with thousands of cases reported across the world.
Although there are no cases confirmed as yet in Uganda, the entertainment industry is rapidly responding to the spread of corona virus.
In an effort to prevent spreading the virus, a number of concerts and other events have been canceled or postponed.
The latest to announce a cancellation is the annual ''Tugende Mukikadde", a concert for fans that love dancing and grooving to oldies Ugandan music.
In a statement issued on their social media handles, management revealed that they had postponed the show to the unforeseeable future as a public health precaution.
"This was a difficult yet entirely necessary decision and we are sure you share in both our disappointment and understanding of why we had to postpone the event at such short notice. There is still too much uncertainty and we are not willing to jeopardize the health of you our loyal customers, our performances, our sponsors and the country," read part of the statement.
This year’s edition was to happen on April 4th at Kampala Serena Hotel. It was aimed at paying tribute to the late Elly Wamala and his musical journey.
Elly Wamala, born Elishama Lukwata Wamala on December 13, 1935, was a Ugandan musician who succumbed to throat cancer at Mulago Hospital on 22 August 2004.
