Ukoo Flani and Wenyeji member, Zakah is back and comes bearing gifts just for the fans!

Hip-hop is the streets. Hip-hop is a couple of elements that come from back in the days... that feel of music with urgency that speaks to you. It speaks to your livelihood and it's not compromised. It's blunt. It's raw, straight off the street - from the beat to the voice to the words.

And one ingenious rappper, Zakah who is a member of Kenya’s inaugural hip hop group  Ukoo flani maumau and hip-hop duo Wenyeji is the embodiment of what real hip hop is! His street conscious makes him more than just a simple rapper but social figure and activist.

Zakah who has been away for quite a while now is back and got to tell us where he’s been during an exclusive interview with Mdundo;

“My hands have been quite full with endless duties over this period I was away.  But I’m currently working on my upcoming album, Desturi, which will drop this November and I will debut it through a nation-wide tour in between the months of November and December” opened up the laid back rapper.

“Hii album ni solo project but nime-work na watu kadhaa kwa industry kama Juliani, Rabbit, Cannibal Wyre na Juliani. Tume-combine ujuzi na mtaget kuskia vile ina sound like ikishatoka” added Zakah.

He is the embodiment of what real hip hop is and his lyrics reflect what the society faces and the hardships of growing in a corrupted system. How he blends in positive messages to sound lyrical and allow the people to still enjoy conscious music makes him an even better artist.

He maintained that he still is a member of Wenyeji and Ukoo Flani, for those of you who have been asking and he has even worked with the both groups on his latest projects as proof.

You may remember the hip hop protégé with his famous line in the song, “Mizani”, where he incredibly combines wordplay and rhymes and goes something like this, “Elfu mbili na sita, nashika nazika naandika mistari, mizani, mithali, mezani ulidhani ni nani…”

Tell me that that, is not a modern day Shakespeare with a touch of Mozart's artistic expression? He is back and his upcoming album will open new uncharted lanes in hip hop.

Want to get into a time capsule and travel back in time when hip hop was more than just music but a culture? Well, simply have a listen to Zakah's music right here on Mdundo and get to experience this rare feeling.

Want real hip hop? Keep it Mdundo!
