Jhene Aiko promised a new and fierce album and she has just delivered that with her third studio album titled ‘Chilombo’.

Chilombo takes after her name which she describes as fierce and beautiful which is what she wanted to channel into her new album. It is a 20-track album with every track holding its own intensity in both the lyricism and instrumentation.

Jhene Aiko takes us through different emotions through-out the album; she takes us through falling and being in love, falling out of love and the heartbreak and her affirmations. Some songs were inspired by her break-up with Big Sean such as the pre-released single ‘Triggered’.

Jhene is said to have pioneered her own subgenre of RnB with her style of singing. This continues to be very evident in this album with the only difference being that she takes more risks with her voice. Her and the producer stuck to RnB flows for the instrumentation. She stuck to her misplaced flow with the voice and singing placement giving the whole album a free-style feel with a mix of rap, RnB and soul.

The album welcomes collaborations from Big Sean, H.E.R, Future, Miguel, John Legend, Dr. Chill, Ty Dolla Sign and Nas.

I hope this is what is getting you into your feels this weekend.
