One of Ghana’s foremost female artistes, Belinda Nana Ekua Amoah, known in showbiz as Mzbel says her music career has died down because of her active involvement in Ghanaian politics.
Known for her hit song ‘16 years’ the musician, who has been off the music scene for some years now, revealed that, it has become difficult for her to promote new songs she releases and that several people started disliking her music after she openly supported the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 general elections.
This, according to her is the reason why she has had to put her music career on hold and focus on other things.
“Music is kind of on hold for now. The main reason is that when I released Tongues, promoting it was difficult. It was right after the general election (2016) and I had shown my face as to whom I supported, so, there was hatred. I went for a nationwide tour but it still didn’t work," Mzbel told Graphic Showbiz.
“As things stand now, if I release a song, I won’t be able to promote it and I won’t get gigs because of political reasons. I have about 11 or 12 songs to be released, so, I put them on my website,” she stated.
She however indicated that she’s now focusing her energy running her restaurant.
“At the moment, I am focusing my energy on my pub and other things,” MzBel Added.
Apart from being one of the popular highlife singers in Ghana, Mzbel is also noted for her controversial traits —composing controversial music, and following it up with controversial comments on politics, sex and other matters that are sure to get her fans talking.
