GHANA: Fuse ODG Chastises Ghanaian Journalists For Discrediting Local Artistes

by Eugene Brown Agyei

British-born Ghanaian afrobeat musician, Fuse ODG, has advised Ghanaian journalists to use their platforms to push local artistes and producers rather than spending so much time discrediting them.

The musician whose "Antenna" song became a world hit says Ghanaians do not like to support anything that is positive.

His comment comes after the media’s reaction to Shatta Wale’s jubilation over Beyonce’s Grammys nomination. Ghana’s award-winning dancehall artiste was featured on Beyonce’s recent album, ‘The Lion King’ and so a nomination for the album was good news to him. The controversial artiste took to Twitter to tweet his excitement but it seems some people think he might be overdoing it.

Following this, Fuse ODG, has chastised Ghanaian entertainment journalists for not supporting artistes and producers in Ghana but would rather use their platform to say things that would discredit them.

““I’m not gonna have you trying to discredit an artiste or producer who has worked so hard to get on an album which has gotten Grammy recognition,” Fuse ODG said in an interview with Accra based 3 FM on Friday, November 22.
In his view, Shatta Wale has every cause to celebrate and that local journalists should let him be.

“How is it that Shatta Wale is on a Beyoncé album, how is it that all these artistes and producers are on an album and [you are] trying to discredit them, how does it make any sense," he said.

“What benefit is it that we are on this phone line, trying to discredit our artistes…you guys don’t want to support local art, why is it that we are here trying to discredit, it doesn’t make any sense to me,” he added.

Born Nana Richard Abiona, Fuse ODG,is one of the artistes from Ghana whose project has appeared on the Grammys and subsequently won an award.

He advised journalists to have a positive attitude towards local artistes and encourage them to do more.
