Kenyan banker ventures into rap, releases hit

Art is a language that few people practice, especially when you are busy doing other things or working late hours. But for Kunguru, that’s a different mentality from what he holds. Kunguru is the guy who few years ago reigned radio airwaves with his hits African Woman and Baby Don’t Go featuring Mr. Lenny.

Fresh from hiatus, the artists is back in business with a club banger ‘Superstar’ whose video will be out anytime from now, directed by Ogopa.

Kunguru currently works as a bank manager in one of the leading banking institutions in Kenya. Asked how he manages to juggle both rap and banking efficiently, the artist responded by saying “It’s all about time management and you get to decide where your time goes. After work there’s studio time.”

The ‘ladies man’ a name he was christened formerly has been silent for a while and one would think he was on a permanent hiatus if not quits. He revealed to us that he had to take time off to give room for upcoming artists who had flooded the industry at that time. He also wanted to concentrate on his career obligations.

“Taking a short break doesn’t mean it's over, it gives you time to rediscover yourself. I also wanted to build my career in banking, which is a very important factor in life goals.”

He describes his latest style as a mixture of benga and modern rap, which he says not many musicians are doing. Kunguru also plans to launch an album early next year, having done seven songs so far.
