VMA Sparks Beyonce Versus Normani Debate

By Kabura Ng'ang'a

The VMAs went down Monday night and it brought to light one of the greatest music debates in recent times once more. The debate on whether Normani is a Beyonce in her own right and automatically spilling over into understanding how she was never the face of Fifth Harmony.

To begin this, it is important to note that the reason Beyonce is a greater performer than anyone else is the fact that she can dance and not miss a note through a 2 hour set. She will keep everyone glued to her and make sure that her voice is as commanding as her presence. Therefore, whatever she is delivering is a full package of what a performance experience she is.

Normani released her hit single Motivation some weeks back and it broke the internet because she was wilding with the dance moves. It was then expected that she would perform this song at the VMAs. She made sure to keep the dance factor in the performance. It is however very easy to realize that you cannot hear Normani all through the song as she is almost inaudible.

This then is an almost great definition on how Normani and Beyonce are not quite on the same page. Also, this answers the question of how Camila Cabello was instead the face of the group fifth Harmony. Watching Camila perform on the same night, you realize that she is a stronger vocalist, much much stronger than Normani thus a better performer. It being a group that created from a singing competition, it would be obvious that the strongest vocalist would be the face of the group, which was not Normani.

Maybe we should let Normani be Normani and keep enjoying Beyonce as the greatest there ever will be.
