Dance is one of the most important aspects of any performance and music video. It in many ways takes a song from 0 to 100. That is how we only like danceable music when we are having fun in a party or in a club, it is the only way of life. As the recipient of the Michael Joseph Vanguard Award this year, Missy made sure to remind people that she was born to dance which has been one constant factor in all her videos.
Missy has always been futuristic about her videos and even through the kind of dances she uses. People were routing for her to bring on Alyson who appeared on her Work it video as a kid and when she came on everyone lost it. It shows the great connection Missy has with her dancers and the dance community at large. She shouted out the dance community from every corner and talked of the importance of the dancers in her music and how that has helped to elevate her music.
There are the many videos we watch because there is mad dancing on there and we rock with that song for specifically that reason. There is a song you might not like from the start but when the video is released, there is a lot of dancing and you too jam to it by dancing. Also why we are obsessed, especially as Africans to name and learn a dance move at every point of our African lives.
What does dance mean to you and what does it add to what you listen to?
