18 Years After Aaliyah

By Kabura Ng'ang'a

It has been 18 years since the passing of one of the queens of RnB, Aaliyah. She was everyone’s sweetheart rolling with the Ruff Riders and occasionally R. Kelly. The one tomboy who we all still thought looked good in that her element.

Aaliyah left us hits that we grew up on and still jam to 18 years after her passing. She is the legendary voice behind hits such as Rock the Boat, Back & Forth, More than A Woman and your-her favourite tune. From her very first album, ‘Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number’ in 1994, it was clear that Aaliyah was going to be legendary. She was a great dancer which showed in her highly choreographed videos. She occasionally doubled as an actor and went on to appear on one of the greatest movies, ‘Romeo Must Die’ alongside Jet Li and DMX. She went on to remake the scenes into one of her hit singles ‘Try Again’.

Aaliyah is the timeless face there is, even in make-up on the industry without a single bad picture.
