Issa Whole Vibe with Super Producer Mutoriah

By Kabura Ng'ang'a

Mutoriah will be having his album launch tomorrow at Sands Club, Adlife Plaza. He will be joined by Tha Movement, Serro, Njerae and AYrosh and it will be hosted by Gufy. But before then, let us meet Mutoriah…

How many instruments do you play?

M: Guitar, keyboard, a little bit of bass.

At what point do you think you blew up?

M: That would probably be during the #IMadeKenyaChallenge in late 2018, my audio went viral attracting the attention of even A-list artists. This was then amplified by my feature on Coke Studio Africa 2019 as the first ever Big Break Producer.

What can we, the audience expect from the album?

M: A lot of good and honest vibes. This is my first body of work and it couldn’t come at a more perfect time. I’m super glad to have some of Kenya’s finest songwriters and musicians featured on. All I hope is that everyone who interacts with the music will be inspired to step out of their cocoon and pursue their dreams without fear.

Will you be laying down your vocals on some tracks on the album?

M: Hehe! Funny thing is, I’ve been in the industry for a minute now but people mostly know me as a multi-instrumentalist and some as a producer. With this album, the world will get to discover and vibe with my singer-songwriter persona. So yes, I will be singing in some, if not all the tracks.

We love your incorporation of the Maasai chants. Do you have more local chants/hums/instruments incorporated in your album?

M: Thank you!!! Yes, expect that and more samples from other cultural elements; from Mugithi to much more. But you’ll also find some modern sounds, some tunes you will want to add to your ‘Bedroom playlist’.

Dive in to catch a vibe with Mutoriah and Tha Movement tomorrow evening.
