By Ian Jacob

The road to BET Awards has began and in it’s 19th year ,the spotlight is on some of the biggest African heavy hitters. African artists AKA (South Africa ) ,Burna Boy (Nigeria) , Mr Eazi (Nigeria) and Aya Nakamura (Mali/France) have all bagged a nomination for the Best International Act category.

They will have to battle it out among themselves and other hot foreign acts in the entertainment industry: Dave (UK) ,Giggs (UK) and Dosseh (France). It gets better, as this year we have two women on the roaster for mother Africa. Sho Madjozi (South Africa) and Tenioala Apata (Nigeria) got a slot in the Best New International Act (Viewers choice ) category .Their music is going to throw it down against other new comers such as Headie one (UK) , Octavian (UK) , Jokair (France) and Nelsey (France) .

AKA is quite the veteran when it comes to BET Awards . This is the South African’s fourth nomination to the award .Additionally the ‘Run Jozi’ rapper has also bagged this year’s Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards . The man is a natural talent and is very proud to represent the continent . “To go and represent my continent and my country among so many other artists it feels great that I’m the one that was chosen to represent my people, it’s always been a big honour to get nominated for the BET Awards,” AKA tells BET Africa Journalist . It seems the mantle is in good hands and the African nominee list is nothing but spectacular. May the best man win . The 2019 BET awards will be held in Los Angeles, America on 23rd June .
