Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle (given name Ermias Asghedom) has died at 33. He was shot on March 31 while leaving his Marathon Clothing Company store in Los Angeles' Crenshaw neighborhood, as TMZ and NBC News report.

There had previously been shots fired outside of Hussle’s store in September 2018, though the rapper was in New York at the time. In a cryptic turn of events, he had tweeted about his enemies just hours beforehand:

The MC released a dozen mixtapes in his career and put out his debut studio album, Victory Lap, in February 2018. The record debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards. He also made headlines his #Proud2Pay campaign, charging $100 for copies of 2013’s Crenshaw and $1,000 for 2014’s Mailbox Money while releasing the projects for free online.

In addition to his music career, Hussle was also known for his philanthropic work and entrepreneurial mindset. He announced the launch of a program called Too Big To Fail in 2018 that would help provide opportunities in STEM fields to youth in inner city Los Angeles.

He also ran the label All Money In, which signed several other West Coast MCs, invested in cryptocurrency, and founded the Marathon Clothing line.
