TWITTERVIEW: Catching Up with Uganda's Dancehall King Tyler Himself

We thought it wise to take some time and chill with Uganda’s Dancehall sensation Tyler Himself. ‘Feel Nice’ hit maker recently made a come back and we made sure to catch up with his story and journey. Quite interesting...indulge;

How is 2019 so far?

2019 is quite busy, we working hard, just so we can put out a lot more this year. But all in all it's a great look.

Are you working on any collabos this year? Which artists are you planning to work with?

Actually planning several this year, last year I only had a major collabo ‘Feel Nice’ with Slim Prince from Nigeria. This year we already dropped a tune with Mun-G, working on several others, both UG & international.

Tell us about your stay in the UK…

UK was a very different place musically. Most music is produced for social media & not necessarily radio or TV. So a lot of music comes down to the online fans & not the media. But that was a great thing to me.

How would you compare it with Uganda? Are we headed in the right direction?

Their fans surely have more spending power, but Ugandan music lovers are very passionate as well. People go out 7 days a week to listen to UG music. I feel we are doing the right thing & the world is watching.

Tell us about your jam ‘Like Glue’ that you released in January. How's the song doing so far?

‘Like Glue’ is getting a major response both uptown & downtown. Since the tune dropped i've got a lot more visibility on the scene, plus the girls love it

How's your journey in business? How do you balance it with music?

I feel music itself is business. So the basic principles stand. Invest, market, get returns and run the same cycle again. The two for me are the same.

Your jam ‘Feel Nice’ with Slim Prince is one of the best performing songs that you've done. Why do you think it did so well?

The song sounds nice to me, very simple message even a child can pick up. But most importantly, people love collabos and International collabos even more. Another reason is that people had taken months without hearing something from me, so it had a come back effect.

You are about to drop a new jam, right? Tell us about it??

This time round, I wanna drop multiple songs. I'm not even yet sure which ones. But we'll sit with my team and have two jams out first day of April. We need to put out all these songs if we gonna complete my album this year.

Nice! Do you mind telling us the name of the album?

Yeah man, the album is called "HERO" just one word.

Two top songs on your playlist right now?

I'm vibing to ‘Silence’ by Popcaan like everyday and ‘Matala’ by Winnie Nwagi. Those are my jams

One song that you would sing on Karaoke night?

Would love to do ‘Tight Skirt’, its a real vibe. Classic to me.

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

I would be psychic, more like Professor X of X-men.

What's your parting shot to your fans?

Much love and respect to everyone that has been supporting not just my music, but Ugandan music. Xtreme Entertainment, the label to which I'm signed. Blessings follow.

Was that not fun? Learning the how on a musical journey is super intriguing. Your favourite artist might just be our next guest on #MdundoTwitterview.
