Mdundo Launches Initiative to Recognize Popular Artists

Mdundo has officially launched a mileage recognition initiative for artists. How popular an artist grows is quite evident from how many downloads their songs can pull on Africa's leading music service. Mdundo now recognizes it's most popular artists through it's Mdundo Download Awards (Platinum, Gold and Silver)

The East African Music Scene has been showing consistent growth. 2018 solely, saw the rise of new music and artists who actually managed to maintain relevance and influnce all through the year. Just to mention Kenyan all boy crew Ethic, Tanzanian Bongo Songstress Nandy and Uganda's Pop Sensation Fik Fameika are some of the new kids on the block who blew up recently.

Those who had earlier on ruled the music entertainment space also have a lot of new entertaining content to offer. The big names like Kenya's Nyashinski, Uganda's Radio & Weasel and Tanzania's Navy Kenzo are contantly working on the next new release. 

Consistent fresh content has the Charts going wild. There is undeniably stiff competition with top artists flactuating in positions at intervals as short as a week. That can only mean one thing, artists are better motivated to appeal, maintain and cosistently grow their fan base; and as a ripple effect, greater content consumption. 

''New Music is like the sun, it has a limited time to shine. The best time for music to shine is on release; it should reach as many people as possible at the same time. This means, artists should make their new music available on all digital music distribution spaces, RBT, and other distribution channels like Radio etc. Basically making music easily accessible reaches way more people.'' says Mdundo Kenya Artists Relations Manager, Irene Soti.

Mdundo signs on an impressive number of new artists on a daily and is also extremely keen on having fresh updated content from artists. This is fodder for artists to gain mileage; as music lovers can then access their favourite music easily and affordably. Music fans are the most essential ingredient to an artist's growth. 

Mdundo Download Awards has 3 categotries of validity. Artists' popularity growth is acknowleded by the number of music downloads they accumulate collectively on the Mdundo platform. The different levels of popularity are recognised as:

1. Platinum Awards - Over 1 Million Downloads

2. Gold Awards - Over 500 Thousand Downloads

3. Silver Awards -  Over 100 Thousand Downloads (Digital Recognition)
