KENYA: ‘It was very dark in every aspect’ Amos and Josh reveal the reason why they went silent

Amos and Josh started their music career just like many other contemporary artistes, in church. Tusker Project Fame gave them a platform and they became Kenyan’s cute and talented duo.

They released a song early last year that got them in trouble. Amos sang that song based on a personal experience but when the song got to HIS ex, she was devastated to a point she wanted to commit suicide.

This forced Amos and Josh to pull down the video after many calls from concerned family members of Amos’ ex’s family.

In an exclusive interview with Adelle on Kiss, the opened up as to why they took a break from music over the last 1 year.

THERE WAS A LOT OF PRESSURE AROUND US TO CHANGE OUR COURSE OF MUSIC TO FIT WITH WHAT WAS HEAVILY ON THE AIRWAVES AT THAT TIME. WE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH OUR PRODUCTION DEAL TO THE POINT WE DIDN’T GO TO STUDIO FOR MONTHS, MAYBE LIKE HALF THE YEAR. WE WOULD BE AT EVENTS AND HEAR PEOPLE TALKING SMACK ABOUT US, TELLING OUR MANAGEMENT HOW WE ARE WASTE OF TIME TO THEM …

It was a confusing time for them just after, because everyone wanted to pitch an idea of how they should do their music yet they needed time out to just understand what they wanted as the duo of Amos and Josh.

During that period, they confess, they have gone hungry at some point because there were no gigs. For them they even thought of splitting up. Life was that hard for them!

The rumors of their break up went viral.

AT THE SAME TIME NO SHOWS WERE COMING THROUGH AND WE WERE SO BROKE TO THE POINT OF MISSING MEALS AND LACKING RENT AND OTHER BASICS… WE GOT THE POINT OF QUESTIONING WHETHER WE ARE REALLY DOING WHAT WE WERE MEANT TO DO HADI TUKAKOSANA SISI WENYEWE AND EVERYONE WANTED TO GO THEIR OWN WAY.

They opened up on their social media page talking about their struggle and their huge comeback in 2018.

2017 WAS A CRAZY YEAR FOR US MUSICALLY AND ON A PERSONAL LEVEL…IT WAS VERY DARK IN EVERY ASPECT, FINANCIALLY, MENTALLY, SPIRITUALLY ETC.. WE WOULD BE AT EVENTS AND HEAR PEOPLE TALKING SMACK ABOUT US, TELLING OUR MANAGEMENT HOW WE ARE WASTE OF TIME TO THEM ETC… MAYBE AJ WOULD HAVE BEEN NO MORE. BUT HERE WE ARE FAMILY, STILL COURAGEOUS. ALL THIS MADE US, MATURER, STRONGER AND MORE FOCUSED ON GIVING OUR CONTRIBUTION TALENT WISE AND AS INDIVIDUALS TO OUR SOCIETY…#UKOJUU WAS RECORDED EARLY 2017 BUT IT HAS NEVER BEEN MORE PROFOUND FOR US AS NOW.

KEEP GOING FAM!! STAY TRUE TO WHO YOU ARE, AND LEARN IN THE PROCESS THE MUCH YOU CAN LEARN BECAUSE THE FUTURE AWAITS YOUR CONTRIBUTION AND SOMEONE MIGHT JUST BE NEEDING TO BE INSPIRED BY WHAT YOU’VE PULLED THROUGH.

Most Kenyan artiste who take a break come back with a bang. Let’s take the most recent example of Nyashinski who came back and scooped alot of awards, collabos and definitely many gigs.
