Describing their music style as heavy traditional Kenyan rhythms, benga and a blend of Western sound, Sarabi is a talented afro-fusion band formed close to ten years ago comprising of 8 talented young men all drawn from Nairobi’s vast Eastland’s estates.
United by their common passion for music, all eight members of the band started singing at a tender age and grew up knowing that music was their divine calling; their band name Sarabi is swahili for Mirage, the word also means, imagination, vision and Creation.
Due to their unique and crisp sound, the band quickly established itself as one of the major music bands in the country and started getting invitations to perform at events around the country; their common background ensured that the members of the band formed a strong bond even outside music.
After taking part in numerous music events, their big break finally came in 2006 when the Band was selected to take part in the acclaimed World Urban Forum tour in Vancouver Canada where they performed alongside some of the most accomplished musicians in the world.
After the tour, the Bands fame grew rapidly and in 2007, the band was declared as the next force in Kenyan music by Drum Magazine.
Last year in July, the band released their debut album titled “Oyaore” at the Alliance francaise finally cementing their position as one of the top bands in Kenya.
On the eve of Jamhuri day last year, the band officially released their hit single “Fuata Sheria” featuring gospel hip hop star Juliani which continues to enjoy massive airplay managing to be nominated for an international music award.
Despite their huge success the Band still continues to churn out hit after hit and is on a mission to conquer the music scene.
