I am a lover of kenyan music and often listen to local music. In the past decade the kenyan music industry has slowly lost its prominence as the leading music capital of East Africa. Tanzanian music has received more acclaim compared to our own local songs. I wonder where we went wrong, but it's clear. Some artist lack content and creativity but they buy access to the media and the kenyans have to listen to substandard music on rotation. Established artists have failed to nature talent and promote our industry. I admire how Churchill has revolutionized comedy in Kenya. He has mentored so many and helped Kenya groom leading comedians in Africa. I know there a lot of established musicians out there who can invest in nurturing and improving our local talent.
I am a talented beat maker and musician but I have not had access to opprtunities . Most of the labels I have visited have acknowledged that I have talent but they could not sign me. I know nothing good comes easy, but nurturing new talent will provide ground to improve the local music industry. Nigeria has myriad record labels and almost all of the established Nigerian artists are signed to a specific music label. Foston Muzik has signed the likes of Kcee and Patoranking, Men Made Music Group owned by Iyanya has signed Tecno and Dj Coublon who is among the leading music producers in Africa. Let's learn from Nigeria, Tanzania is doing the same. Diamond platnumz has signed talent and it does not impede his musical success.
