24 August 2013
Jump for joy if you are a singer and would love to join Sauti Academy for a one year program that will see you improve your skills as a professional musician.
The Sauti Academy is currently seeking for unique voices, talented and ambitious singers who are interested in taking their musical career to the next level. This will be done through auditions to be conducted on the 30th and 31st of August at Penya Africa.
Those who pass the test will be taken through a one year program that includes singing lessons, performance coaching, music business workshops and song writing.
According to Penya Africa Executive Director Natalie Lukkenaer, who is also currently part of the team overseeing countrywide auditions for the Tusker Project Fame season 6, the program is a chance for talented singers in Kenya to set a strong foundation for their professional career on stage.
“The person who benefits from this type of program and life after graduation will have much to offer as a professional musician. We will perfect both their singing and music business skills,” says Natalie.
During auditions, singers are expected to perform one or two songs with an accompanist; pianist or guitarist. Instruments will be provided. They will also be interviewed about their motivation to join the program.
Candidates who pass the first auditions will be invited for a second round in which they will be assigned a song to perform in front of the other candidates and if necessary take some extra tests on improvisation & musicality. Positive result from the second round will lead to candidates being officially welcomed to the Sauti Academy.
Natalie has nurtured artists such as Andrew Wambua, KIU Music, Cece Sagini, Bahati, Mumala, Dempsey Omwega and many other young musicians through similar programs. She also offers professional advice to top Kenyan artists including Willy Paul and Sauti Sol who are part of Penya Africa.
One of her current students, Waithera Chege, says that she has benefited a lot from the academy having been there for about a year.
“Sauti Acedemy is a nice place to be for anyone willing to be a professional musician. I have performed at many events including Blankets and Wine and even worked with Amileena, and all that I can attribute to Sauti,” says Waithera.
The auditions will take place at the Penya Africa studios in Pangani, Showbe Plaza along Murang’a Road.
