KENYA: Sauti Sol To Watch ‘The Emoji Movie’ With A Fan Courtesy of Mdundo and Imax

Mdundo and Imax are working together in a partnership where various Kenyan artists and lucky fans get to watch a movie twice a month. Sauti Sol will this week be gracing 'The Emoji Movie' Premiere at The Anga Sky Cinema together with a lucky fan.

A lucky fan will this Friday, 28th July, win a celebrity movie date to watch The Emoji Movie premiere at The Anga Sky Cinema with Kenya’s award winning band, Sauti Sol. This is after the release of their hot new jam ‘Friendzone’ which entails an already trending emoji video, making it relevant for the premiere. A trivia will be posted on Mdundo’s social media pages and whoever gets it right becomes the lucky winner.

The Mdundo-Imax partnership was launched in April and has seen various artists; Fena, Amos and Josh, Le Band, Timmy T Dat, and Kagwe Mungai meet with their fans and now to this week's movie date with Sauti Sol. The idea has also worked in the Tanzanian market where hip hop artist, Songa, got to watch a movie with one of his fans two weeks ago.

"When we first started hosting the celebrity lunches and now the celebrity movie dates, it was part of a plan to help promote our artists, with the aim of bringing them closer to the fans. Additionally, these activities are a form of a reward system for both the fans and the artists for being loyal Mdundo users." Kenya’s Music and Operations Manager at Mdundo, Liz Mwangi remarks.

“We ask neither the artist nor their fans for any kind of reimbursement but instead Mdundo partners up with different parties on board like Imax and The Wine Shop among others and their contribution has been immense. It is one of the things that make working closely with artists easier and better as we not only want their music on Mdundo, but also want to form a lasting relationship with them by giving them extra value," she adds.

"It's been a great experience working with Mdundo and we can't wait for this week's movie premiere with Sauti Sol. Our audience is always excited when celebrity artists have a meet and greet before and after the movies and this has resulted to a higher ticket sale compared to our previous sales." says Naomi, Imax's PR and Marketing Manager.
