Lyrics

"South Africa’s youngest Grammy award winner recently released her self titled debut album and is solidifying her music presence by showing the world what she has to offer. Tyla got global recognition last year after her single Water topped the charts leading her to win a Grammy in the newly introduced Best African Music Performance category.
Tyla, the album, is a 14 songs, catchy and energetic album with a runtime of 38 minutes that blends sounds of Amapiano, Afrobeats and RnB. It starts with an intro featuring Kevin Momo, a South African producer, who is talking as Tyla’s music is being played in the background. This sets the tone for the Amapiano sound of the album. Safer officially introduces the album with a strong energetic drum pattern that captures the listener’s attention from the jump with its upbeat sound. Her two singles Water and Truth or dare follow next keeping up with the upbeat sound that is a fusion of Amapiano, Afrobeat and RnB. The transition from Truth or dare and No.1 is quite amazing as the listener gets to experience a thematic continuity and Tems really delivers on the vocals. At this point, Tyla decided to explore more of the RnB sound with Breathe me, Butterflies, On and On and ART, flexing her vocals over the mid tempo beats. As for Jump and On My Body, Tyla explores different sounds experimenting with hip hop and dancehall on Jump featuring Gunna and Skillibeng and having some Latin vibe on the On My Body track which features Becky G. As the album almost comes to and end, Tyla takes us back to the RnB Amapiano sound with Priorities, To Last and Water remix. The album is a great listen with no skips, amazing production, well composed lyrics and seamless flow for a well structured album.
