Epixode Reveals How His Mother Inspired His Music Genre

Multi-award-winning Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artiste Epixode has revealed how his passion for the dancehall/ reggae genre started. He attested that since childhood he watched his mother express her love for that genre of music. According to Epixode, his mum was a die-hard reggae lover and would bring home a couple of records of reggae and country music, from her tour in Europe.

Artistry runs in the family as the artist’s mum and her twin sister were lead vocals in the celebrated, traditional musical group ‘Wulomei and Kalifi’.

‘My mum is a strong reggae lover. In the 80s and 90s, my mother was part of the cultural troupes so she spent most of her time in Europe. So, she always comes back with records which were mainly reggae and country music. The love started from there .’

Apart from his inspiration, the ‘Odeshi’ hitmaker was also involved in a musical group in his early days. He also grew up listening to veteran reggae artists including Gramps Morgan, Beenie Man, and Sizzla. This stimulated his love for reggae music.

At the moment, Epixode is credited to be the top Ghana dancehall/reggae artist and the reigning Dancehall artiste of the year of the VGMA. He has been able to wow his fans with hits like Odeshi, Wahala Dey, and Fall Out.
