Veteran musician Ziza Bafana has advised upcoming artists not to look at music as a competition. Speaking during a recent interview, Bafana urged artists to release songs at their own pace, adding that musicians should not be in a hurry to flood the market with songs yet they are not benefitting.

According to him, having many songs does not mean that one is a star, since you may have the songs but lack an audience.

He hit out at Ugandan artists who release songs back to back but can't afford to hold a successful solo concert, arguing that in such a case the songs are the meaningless.

"Music is not a competition. If I had faded or no longer relevant, how come I can hold a concert more successful than an artist you claim is the best?

"I just want all artists, especially the upcoming ones, to know that music is not a competition but needs experience. You might claim to be big in competition, releasing 50 songs but they still won't recognize you as an artist. You can't attract people to leave their homes, and come together for your show unless someone does that and has you perform," he said.

Ziza Bafana was off the music scene for several years but bounced back in 2020. Since his comeback, Ziza Bafana has released a number of songs but his latest collaboration with Pallaso titled 'Mpeke' is the most popular.
