Mr. Flavour Defends Diamond Platnumz, Blasts Nigerian Media for Ignoring Other African Sounds

Popular Nigerian artist Mr. Flavour has blasted the country's media outlets for ignoring other African sounds.

Speaking during a recent interview, Mr. Flavour noted that the Nigerian media is focused on Afro-Beat, ignoring the quality productions from other regions.

The singer notes that Diamond is ignored in Nigeria, and he does not receive enough airplay.

 According to Mr. Flavour, Diamond's YouTube numbers speak volume. Diamond has over one billion views on YouTube, the highest figure in Africa.

"Why don't I get to hear a lot of Diamond Platnumz here...Diamond sings in his language. When you think of him you think of East Africa...I think the media need to celebrate all we have…Diamond on YouTube is the biggest act in Africa," said Mr. Flavour.

Mr. Flavour stated that it is high time music awards were launched to celebrate all the diversity in African music. He notes that the continent has boxed everything into Afro Beat.

The singer adds that although he is a Nigerian musician, his style of music is ignored. He notes that his high-life genre does not receive enough credit.

Mr. Flavour warns that the focus on Afro-Beat at the expense of other genres like bongo is impacting upcoming musicians who can ignore areas where they are talented.
