Zambian Hip hop industry is growing rapidly with a new rapper joining the competitive field every other day.

In a bid to remain relevant, a number of artistes have been improving their art and adopting modern technology to improve end quality.

This article reviews 2020’s most popular Zambian Hip hop artists:

Daev

Without a doubt, the name Davis Phiri alias Daev is now known all over Zambia and beyond.

Daev died in a road accident in September. However, even before his death, he was a force to reckon with in the industry.

He is among the most viewed and talked about artiste in Zambia not for his death, but for his mad energy that he oozed as a XYZ signee where he doubled up as a vocalist.

One of Daev’s biggest songs for the year was “Never Been Easy’. It was a hit single that did him a lot of justice in terms of expanding his fan base.

Slap Dee

The 33-year-old artiste has his music career spanning for over a decade and half. He got into music in 2006 and has kept the faith 14 years later to become an icon in the hip hop game. Some of his big hits include ‘Lituation’ which he did together with Daev and Nigerian Patoranking. ‘Savuka’ and ‘No Wonder’ are other of his great tunes.

Macky 2

He has been in the game for the last 13 years and counting. He is known for his role in the 9th edition of Big Brother Africa where he finished third. Besides, his musical family has brought some enthusiasm in his music. His younger brother Chef 187 is also a hip hop artiste just like him. He is a producer and a deejay too. Some of his biggest tunes are ‘I declare’, ‘Feeling Feeling’, ‘Mrs Me’ among others.

Chef 187

He is the younger brother to renowned Zambian hip hop artiste Macky 2. He is such a successful soul having bagged three high-profile ambassadorial endorsements in Zambia. Chef 187’s fame is merited if his songs are to go by. His great hits include ‘Foolish Me’, ‘All The Way’ and ‘Grammy Nechibemba’.
