Ghanaian renowned rapper Sarkodie has come out to speak about his first racist encounter in Germany when he had gone to visit family, some years back.

This was revealed during an interview with Vlad TV, where he said that he faced the racial discrimination in an immigration office, when he was trying to enter Germany with an Italian Visa. The award winning rapper was visiting family in Germany and he had been assured by the immigration officer that he could enter Germany with an Italian Visa. However, the Officer questioned Sarkodie’s financial status as he made some remarks on Africans being poor.

“There was a situation where I was going to visit my family in Germany and at the immigration, an officer pulled me aside for holding an Italian officer,” he told Vlad TV. “I didn’t know it was a crime because it was a Schengen visa and I could go to anywhere in Europe.”

The “Bleeding” hitmaker further said: “He pulled me aside and questioned me about why am I using an Italian visa to enter Germany, and I asked if that was wrong. He said ‘no’ but wants to understand why, and I said ‘just because I wanna come to Germany.”

Afterwards, the officer told Sarkodie to his face that he is not worthy of such privilege since he is just a poor African like the rest. “And he said straight to my face that ‘I know Africans are poor, so how are you going to take care of yourself while you are here?”

According to the Ghanaian rapper, the above statement got him furious.

“And that, I flipped; that one, I can’t take it. That’s stupid. That’s even racist; it’s just you being stupid. I had to put him right. I lost my cool.”

The encounter taught Sarkodie a lesson about racism and from then, he has been keen on racial discrimination.
